Wow. It's been exactly two weeks since I've posted anything at all. I'm trying to think what's been going on with me the last two weeks but I can't think of anything that has been remarkable. I guess I've been going through the motions, going everywhere I need to be and keeping busy with these things. I noticed today, again (I always seem to forget this) that I embark into projects way more optimistic than I should. The last couple of days, I put the guest bedroom together, which entailed turning the ''throw everything we don't know what to do with'' room into a place that will pleasantly let guests be when they come visit. We finally bought a bed this weekend which was delivered on Wednesday night and since then I've been moving stuff around, throwing stuff out and setting aside things to donate. I finished everything last night but a couple things. One, I'm not finished decorating the room and two, I wanted to get this small, three drawer chest from my mother that she had stowed away in the garage. I figured I can keep it empty so when people come they can just throw their stuff in there and be done with it, you know? Anyway, today I go over there and pick it up and the thing looked way worse on the outside than I had remembered. So I discuss with my father who says, you need to get paint stripper and start over. I think, okay, I can do this. I head over to KMart looking for that and other tools to get the job done. Come home. Get started. Before this, I tell Martin, who knows, maybe I'll be done with this by tonight! Ha. Not going to happen. This whole paint stripping thing is damn difficult. I've finally managed to take the paint off the top but it still looks way icky and I guess I'm going to have to sand that down some and I tried a little and I felt like my arm was on fire. Yeah. Time to take a break. So that's why I'm here. The good news is, is that underneath all that horrid paint is a really beautiful cherry colored wood that looks really nice. I guess once I'm done with this strenuous task, I'll just varnish it and that's it. It's a beautiful color naturally, I wonder why they decided to put paint over it, it's that pretty to me. I guess that if I weren't so naive about the difficulty of certain projects, I'd never have the nerve to try them. Maybe this isn't such a bad thing. |
