Thing have been peaceful. (WATCH. I said that and now it won't be!) I've basically just been practicing my wacky pieces for my fall recital and actually, this week I took up walking. This is a positive development. One hour a day, four days a week. All weekdays except for Tuesday where I have to teach lessons at my house starting early. So I've been getting my butt out of bed early and walking over to my mom's house and then spending an hour in the heat (even at 8am, ick) and doing an hour. It's not bad. I used to really enjoy exercise. And then I went to college. I was still active, but not as much as I had been in high school. And then there are all those extra calories from social eating... Anyway speaking of things from high school, my ten year class reunion is tomorrow. No, I'm not going. In fact, our class of 106 was so enthusiastic about this reunion that all of 21 people responded. They had to cancel the fancy event. Now they're meeting at a nightclub. Usually I'm all over going to a fancy event but when I looked over the list of other people who had responded yes I quickly decided that I was certainly not going to spend $110 plus dress, shoes whatever, to spend time with people whom I did not like in high school and who never gave me the time of day. So that was that. Meanwhile, my high school friend Don, whom I've been in touch with recently via e-mail thought that some of us should get together before the official event for dinner. So that is what Martin and I, Tara and a couple of other friends are going to do. It'll be cool because A- I hardly ever get to see Tara; B- I'll get to reconnect with Don, Lesley and Ngan, who were all people that I enjoyed spending time with when I was in high school. C- Going to a cool restaurant that everyone says is wonderful and that the appletinis are great. Definitely going to try one of those. Sometimes I complain that I don't have many ''my age'' friends to hang with here but perhaps reconnecting with some of these people will put an end to that perhaps. We'll see. My in-laws are coming to stay for three weeks from Germany. My husband hasn't seen them in two years, since we were married in June 2001. I know that he must really miss them and is looking forward to seeing them. I know it'll be good to see them but I am also very apprehensive about them staying for 3 weeks. Martin is taking two weeks off for vacation to hang with them, which is especially good being that I still have a teaching/practicing life that I can't abandon for three weeks. This all should be interesting to say the least. (If you see any strange rants in here from June 13 onward, you'll know why.) |
